Academic Research
CogniSyst, its authors and
independent collaborators have published numerous peer-review research papers
that have utilized or focused primarily on measures of symptom validity (e.g.,
CARB, TOMM & the WMT). These cognitive measures have been well-validated in head
injury populations, as well as patients undergoing compensation-related
assessments for pain, depression and other disability claims. Click here to
review our relevant publications and presentations.
We view Symptom Validity Tests (SVTs) as a necessary adjunct to all clinical
research with neurocognitive measures.
CogniSyst also has ongoing research on SVTs under development, as well as
self-report assessments for use in pain and/or rehabilitation therapy. Soon you
will be able to view more information concerning these instruments as well as
the specific areas of interest on our Collaborating Research Page (Not currently
available. Check back soon.)

The latest version of
CogniSyst's Windows Software for evaluation is on our server and is available to
those who have provided a modest amount of personal information*.
This installation package runs on XP and Vista versions of Windows. It contains
the Resourcefulness for Recovery Inventory—Revised (RRI-R) and CogniSyst’s
Depression Inventory (CDI; based on the original BDI). Both of which are
supported by our CogShell™ Assessment Environment that provides direct
computerized administration, input and edit from paper and pencil forms as well
as directly reporting from your desktop.
The current version of this software allows unlimited use and is not copy
protected or otherwise restricted**. Even so, in
order to use the software you are bound to the terms of a simple licensing
agreement*** that gives you three months to
evaluate the RRI-R for potential purchase (CDI is yours for free without
restrictions.) At the end of the evaluation period you will be expected to
either purchase a license for continued use of the RRI-Revised, or to
participate in one of our ongoing clinical research data collection efforts.
Such Clinical Research Collaborators (CRCs) will be expected to pay a modest
yearly licensing fee and periodically provide us with anonymous data from their
routine clinical practices for research purposes.
We hope the free evaluation instruments will prove of value in your practice
and stimulate you to consider our other product offerings.
Here are some important points that may answer some questions:
- The evaluation software is free to try and use, not copy-protected and
there are no real “teeth” in these agreements.
- Participation in any specific ongoing or new clinical research project
is strictly by mutual agreement. These studies are essentially anonymous,
retrospective, chart studies utilizing electronic data collection methods,
and can usually be approved by Institutional Review Boards using purely
administrative processes, if as a CRC, you are subject to such regulation.
- CogniSyst, Inc. publishes two of the very best symptom validity measures
available (CARB and the WMT), along with a number of excellent and highly
regarded self-report measures assessing pain, memory and somatic complaints.
We also have a number of other self-report, computer-based cognitive
measures in various stages of development.
- The yearly cost to CRCs will be $200 US—although this is negotiable.
This cost is less than the retail price of any one (single) assessment that
we publish. All are currently sold for unlimited use and licensed to one
clinician, (or one computer’s CPU when used by more then one clinician).
From our perspective this is quite a deal! The reason there is a cost for
the CRC membership, primarily involves the need to weed out potential
collaborators who are not serious about research, or who simply do not
conduct a sufficient number of patient assessments to make participation
worthwhile for either party. Additionally, CogniSyst provides no-cost
support for CRCs using the software and this cannot be accomplished without
incurring operational expenses.
